During an Earthquake
Indoors
DropDROP down onto your hands and knees (before the earthquakes knocks you down). This position protects you from falling but allows you to still move if necessary.
|
CoverCOVER your head and neck (and your entire body if possible) under a sturdy table or desk. If there is no shelter nearby, only then should you get down near an interior wall (or next to low-lying furniture that won't fall on you), and cover your head and neck with your arms and hands.
|
Hold OnHOLD ON to your shelter (or to your head and neck) until the shaking stops. Be prepared to move with your shelter if the shaking shifts it around.

Outdoors
Take this video as an example.
When an earthquake suddenly occurs in your area:
1) Do not panic! Stay calm!
2) Go to an open area and drop to the ground. Make sure you're away from anything that can fall.
3) Grab someone. It's hard to maintain balance if you're alone. You're best bet is to grab someone and try to maintain your balance.
4) If your'e in a vehicle, stop it (or make the driver stop) and stay inside. (Unless something can fall over it, otherwise find a safe area.)
5) Save someone in need. Don't just think of yourself. If you can save a life, PLEASE DO!
